Pi Kappa Alpha Iota Delta Chapter

The 2010 Fall Rush Scholarship, the inaugural Rush Scholarship, went to Timothy Joseph Orr, better known as T.O. to his brothers. T.O. is a 22-year-old Mechanical Engineering major. He has always surpassed what is expected of him during Rush periods, and he has always brought freshmen to events, interacted with them on campus, and showed them what Pike is all about. His outgoing personality and openness to all kinds of new people are great assets during Rush. Congratulations Tim!

The Iota Delta Alumni Association, through the generosity of a few donors, started a Rush Scholarship for the Iota Delta Chapter to reward active members who go way beyond typical expectations during a Rush period. The Chapter votes for a recipient of the Fall Rush $100 Scholarship during winter quarter, and another recipient for the Spring Rush $100 Scholarship during spring quarter.

Iota Delta was awarded at The Academy this year for its excellence throughout the 2008-09 academic year. It was awarded the prestigious Robert Adger Smythe Award , its third in four years, demonstrating Iota Delta's merit as one of the finest chapters in the fraternal world. Three active brothers are in attendance at the conference, Ryan Smeltzer (SMC), Alex Kline, and Larry Waters as well as Iota Delta alumnus and International Vice President Whitney Zimmerman.

Memphis, TN - Today was a very busy day at the Convention with literally hundreds of awards handed out. The Iota Delta chapter was honored with several awards:

20/30 Recruitment Award

100% ppka Club Participation
Pike University 25 Man Commitment

These awards are in addition to the Chapter Excellence Award we received yesterday. For each of the workday awards, the Chapter received a $100 gift card for Lowes. For the 20/30 recruitment award (meaning we had at least 20 initiates and 30% more initiates than last year) we received a Pike flag and a $200 donation to our ppka club fund. This means we will have more funds available next year to sponsor sending our members to Pike University events.

Earlier this quarter we reported on Pike's established presence in the many academic honors societies at Rose-Hulman, including the sweep of all executive positions in Eta Kappa Nu, the international ECE honors society.

Not to be outdone, members of Pike's freshman class have been recognized by their peers for their leadership qualities in being elected to be officers in Alpha Lambda Delta. Membership in Alpha Lambda Delta is only open to freshmen with GPAs above 3.5 and in the top fifth of of their class. The Chapter would like to congratulate Russell Bennett (ALD President), Nathan Jackson (ALD Treasurer), Jesse Cherbak (ALD Historian), and John McLaughlin (ALD Historian) for being inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta.

Grades are in from the 2007-2008 winter term and once again the Iota Delta chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha has proven its commitment to successful academic achievement. The chapter continually achieves the highest term and cumulative GPAs, over the Greek, men’s, and all-campus averages. This term, Pike brothers earned an average GPA of 3.18. Additionally, 8 Pikes achieved perfect 4.0 GPAs. Congratulations to them and to all brothers; their efforts contribute to Iota Delta’s sterling academic reputation at the premier undergraduate engineering institution in the country, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Rose-Hulman has been ranked #1 for nine consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report.

Eta Kappa Nu is a prominent national Electrical and Computer Engineering Honors Society. Annually, the top 25% of the junior class and top 33% of the senior class are invited to join. Six of this year's fourteen initiates - Scott Fieldhouse, Ryan Roberts, Brandon Finan, John Stargel, Jonathan Kellerman, and Whitney Zimmerman - are Pikes. The 2008-2009 President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer are all members of Pi Kappa Alpha. The new executive board have big plans to make significant improvements to the activities of the Honors Society.

Pi Kappa Alpha is well represented among the academic honor societies at Rose-Hulman including Alpha Lambda Delta, Tau Beta Pi, Upsilon Pi Epsilon, Pi Mu Epsilon, Sigma Pi Sigma, and Blue Key. You can find out more information about these societies on Rose-Hulman's website.

Chicago, IL-Pi Kappa Alpha is fortunate to have the premier leadership program in the Greek world. In recent years Pike University has grown from a small set of annual events to include six regional leadership summits in Philadelphia, Kansas City, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Chicago. Iota Delta regularly sends interested Brothers to the end of year Chicago summit. This year, the Chapter met its goal of sending 20 men to the summit; all classes, freshmen through seniors, were represented. The event culminated a successful year for the Pike University program.

Furthermore, six brothers and four associates made perfect 4.0 GPAs. Congratulations to them and all brothers; their efforts contribute to Iota Delta’s remarkable reputation.

In addition to its successes in community service, athletics, philanthropic events, and other areas, the Iota Delta chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha has rounded off another highly successful year in academics at one of the top undergraduate engineering schools in the country. For each quarter during the 2006-2007 school year Pike earned higher marks than each of the cumulative and quarterly Greek, Men's, and overall campus GPA averages. Read more...
