43 Rose-Hulman Men Fill Fall Rush Class

Following six weeks of hard work and determined rushing, 43 of the finest men Rose-Hulman has to offer accepted bids from Iota Delta. Chris Routh, the Chapter's Rush Chairman, noted:

"It can be daunting to recruit the highest quality men in large numbers and Pike has succeeded in doing just that with this class. It is filled top to bottom with a diverse group of men of the highest character and ambition."

The new Alpha Psi class will be led through their associate period by Associate Educator Clayton Shotwell and his team. Check back soon for bio information. Congratulations to Iota Delta and the new Alpha Psi class!

Pi Kappa Alpha Helps United Way Days of Caring

This past Saturday, forty Brothers helped out on two of the many projects that were a part of the United Way Days of Caring. Twenty-five Brothers helped hang the soffit on a Habitat for Humanity house, as well as placing trim along the roof, and clearing the dirt off the sidewalk in front of the house. Meanwhile, fifteen Brothers went to the local YMCA and did a lot of landscaping to make the front of the building look spectacular. Thanks to all the Brothers who helped out on Saturday morning and to Dale Long for the pictures.

The focus of United Way is identifying and resolving pressing community issues, as well as making measurable changes in the communities through partnerships with schools, government agencies, businesses, organized labor, financial institutions, community development corporations, voluntary and neighborhood associations, the faith community, and others.

Iota Delta Senior, Cory Salem, Dies in Motorcycle Accident

Early last Wednesday afternoon, Cory Salem, a senior biomedical engineer and Brotherhood Chairman in the Chapter, was killed in a motorcycle accident near Bloomington, IN on Old State Road 37 while on a ride with four other Iota Delta Brothers. This marks the first death of an initiated Iota Deltan in the Chapter's 20 year history. The funeral will be held in Ohio on Wednesday September 10. For details or for an address to send condolences to please contact the Chapter Alumni Relations using the Contact Us form on the website.

Whitney Zimmerman named International Vice President

At the final banquet of the 2008 International Convention, our own Chapter President Whitney Zimmerman was named as one of the new Undergraduate International Vice Presidents! This is a very special position that only two undergraduates in all of the entire International Fraternity are given. Whit will serve as a member of the Supreme Council for the next year, working with new International President Patrick Talley. Congratulations to Whit for this well deserved position!

Iota Delta takes home coveted Smythe, House of the Year Awards!

Memphis, TN - Saturday was the big day everyone was waiting for. Following legislative committee meetings and a brand management session by Kurt Schoeffler, Director of Growth and Marketing, lunch finally arrived. Iota Delta was awarded the House of the Year Award. This award, given to one chapter annually, is based primarily on the quality of house management practices.

The 16 Robert Adger Smythe Awards were announced to much fanfair. The statistics about the recipients are impressive and will be posted soon. The Robert Adger Smythe Award is given to a select number of Chapters each year and represents the best of the best. There is no greater honor a Chapter can receive. Finally, third from the end, Iota Delta's name was called. This is the eleventh Smythe Iota Delta has received in twenty years, representing more Smythe awards than most Chapters may ever receive. The Chapter is honored to receive this prestigious award once again.

International Convention - Day 3

Memphis, TN - Following two days of non stop legislative committee meetings, educational sessions, and socializing a day of rest was sorely needed. This morning at 7am Iota Delta Brother Whitney Zimmerman woke up early to join 30 other Pikes in painting houses in a less fortunate part of Memphis. Everyone had a terrific time helping the community and playing pick up basketball and football with the local kids. Also present were 5 Pikes from nearby Indiana State University, including alumnus and past Midwest Regional President Al Perone.

Ben Riggles, a senior member of the Air Force ROTC, was asked in May to represent the entire undergraduate membership as the Air Force representative to the dedication of the new Gold Star Memorial (far left in photo). The Gold Star Memorial honors the members of our Brotherhood who gave their lives in past and current wars. It was a beautiful ceremony followed by a tour of the impressive Memorial Headquarters.

International Convention - Day 2

Memphis, TN - Today was a very busy day at the Convention with literally hundreds of awards handed out. The Iota Delta chapter was honored with several awards:

Workday award for Manpower
Workday award for Best Interior Project
20/30 Recruitment Award
Scholarship Plate
100% ppka Club Participation
Pike University 25 Man Commitment

These awards are in addition to the Chapter Excellence Award we received yesterday. For each of the workday awards, the Chapter received a $100 gift card for Lowes. For the 20/30 recruitment award (meaning we had at least 20 initiates and 30% more initiates than last year) we received a Pike flag and a $200 donation to our ppka club fund. This means we will have more funds available next year to sponsor sending our members to Pike University events.

International Convention - Day 1

Memphis, TN – Today marks the first day of the Fraternity’s 66th Convention. The event is being held in Memphis, TN at the historic Peabody Hotel. Four undergraduates are attending the 5 day event this year: Whitney Zimmerman, Jake Esau, Timothy Orr, and Ben Riggles. Today, Iota Delta was recognized in the top 20 percent of all Chapters with a Chapter Excellence Award in addition to the reception of the impressive International Workday Plaque being admired by an exuberant T.O. at right. We will be posting updates every day so check back tomorrow!

Iota Delta wins final House of the Quarter Award

Iota Delta's reception of the final House of the Quarter Award for 2007-2008 was announced today through the June Issue of Pike House. The award is presented to chapters with exceptional housing management practices. With over 23 acres of land and multiple residential and special use buildings, one of which being over 100 years old, it is absolutely necessary to put in as much work as the Chapter regularly does in maintenance and improvements.

Read what Pi Kappa Alpha's Real Estate Department had to say about Iota Delta's practices here.

UPDATE: The Chapter has won the House of the Year award for its excellent house management practices. Click the picture at right to read the article in the Winter 2008 Shield and Diamond.
