Last Friday, November 30, nine Iota Delta Brothers traveled to Illinois State University to help the Kappa Alpha Brothers initiate their 26 member pledge class. The Iota Delta initiation team initiated sixteen of these gentlemen with the professionalism and quality Iota Delta is known for nationwide. To prepare for the trip, the team practiced five nights a week for three weeks to be confident they could perform initiation to the highest possible standard. Iota Delta has been awarded the Cornerstone Award for Ritual, given to only one Chapter in the nation, for the past two years since the award’s creation.
Earlier this year Iota Delta sent a team of Brothers to Indiana University in Bloomington to assist in the initiation of the new Delta Xi Chapter. At the time the Brothers pledged increased collaboration between the ISU, Rose, and IU chapters. Last weekend, a group of Brothers drove the Chapter's pumper truck - one of the two fire trucks owned by the Chapter - in the IU Homecoming Parade as the Delta Xi Chapter's entry. The event was a major success for both Chapters and is the first of many collaborative events in the future.
Yesterday marked the conclusion of the newly shortened four-week rush period at Rose-Hulman with students signing their bid cards from 7 - 8 AM in the union and bid day officially kicking off at 5 PM. Pi Kappa Alpha came away from an excellent rush period with 23 of the best scholars, leaders, athletes, and gentlemen on the campus. The celebration began with the traditional laps around campus on the fire truck, followed by walking back to the house and all of the traditional bid tuesday activities. Congratulations to the men of the Alpha Phi class of Iota Delta chapter!
This summer at the Pi Kappa Alpha Leadership Academy, Rose-Hulman Pikes were awarded several prestigious awards. Our Risk Awareness program was recognized as a runner-up for the Risk Awareness Cornerstone Award, which was only granted to one chapter. The Cornerstone Award for Ritual was presented to us for the second time in a row since the award was created two years ago. Finally, Pike at Rose-Hulman was recognized as among the best in the country by being named a National Chapter of Excellence.
In addition to its successes in community service, athletics, philanthropic events, and other areas, the Iota Delta chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha has rounded off another highly successful year in academics at one of the top undergraduate engineering schools in the country. For each quarter during the 2006-2007 school year Pike earned higher marks than each of the cumulative and quarterly Greek, Men's, and overall campus GPA averages. Read more...

On Tuesday, May 8, Pi Kappa Alpha opened the doors of Hatfield Hall and welcomed nearly 200 students, faculty, and local residents to an hour and a half of comedy featuring Denis Donohue and Steve Hofstetter. Denis opened the show, followed by Steve entertaining those in attendance with a wide range of jokes varying from social dating to comically complaining about other towns in the country.
All ticket sales and money raised through donations will be given to the Terre Haute office of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. In total, the event raised nearly $1500 to be donated to charity. Pike would like to thank everybody who came and supported this event, especially the Residence Hall Association for buying 75 tickets for on-campus students to attend. Our thanks also go out to Steve Hofstetter for attracting the crowds and raising money.
A week ago at nine in the morning, brothers and alumni converged in the back lounge to receive the many jobs planned for work day. Projects included adding an overhang to the barn roof, trimming the trees along the back field and along the road into the Fraternity, patching up and fixing the drywall in the main house and annex, tidying up the trail leading to the Heritage Trail, fixing the sidewalk torn up when the water main was fixed, filling potholes in the parking lot, building a waterproof storage room in the basement, and cleaning off the roofs of the buildings on the grounds. Thanks to all the brothers who spent their Saturday working around the grounds. A special thanks goes out to all the alumni who came back and helped us complete all the projects we had planned.
About a month ago, the first step was taken to transform the GMC pumper firetruck into the ultimate tailgating machine. The original 800 gallon steel tank was removed to make room for the tailgating equipment. A 200 gallon plastic tank will be installed so we can still pump out water onto unsuspecting individuals. Futhermore, a tailgate will be installed with removable grills and mounted speakers on the back of the truck. Add to that a new deck and lights and everyone will be able to tell where the burgers are at. Implementation is expected to take two years. Pictures from the recent Fire truck workday can be found here.
