Pi Kappa Alpha Iota Delta Chapter

Saturday, April 24th was Pi Kappa Alpha’s second annual Fire Truck Pull to benefit Special Olympics Indiana. The ISU and Rose-Hulman PIKEs joined forces, along with the Terre Haute Fire Department to put together the successful day, full of food, music, games, raffles and give-aways, and of course, the Fire Truck Pull. Teams consisting of 8 members were required to pull the truck 100 feet as quickly as they could. All told, 12 teams participated, including multiple PIKE teams, several sororities and other organizations, and the defending champions: The Terre Haute Fire Fighters. Once again, the Fire Department took home the gold, with a time of under 19 seconds.
“Everyone outdid our loftiest goals for the year,” says Nathan Jackson, event head organizer. “We had 3 times as many teams this year compared to last, in a better facility, and everyone truly seemed to be having fun. We’ve raised over $2000 this year, and are incredibly excited to do so. We have big plans for Fire Truck Pulls in the future, its only up from here.”
A new tradition was started this year; an annual tug-of-war between the Rose-Hulman and ISU chapters to be had at half time of the event. But perhaps the best part of the day was not the food or fun, or even the amazement of watching a team of 8 girls pull the fire truck, but rather getting to watch the two Special Olympics Athletes pull the truck with the help of the Fire Firefighters. Having those two guys there really helped bring the event together, reminding us all why we were there, helping Special Olympics Indiana in their goal to help all persons with intellectual disabilities to have the chance to become useful and productive citizens who are accepted and respected in their communities. We hope to see you all there next year, and look forward to the opportunity of further supporting Special Olympics
