Alden Renovation

Alden Update

I apologize for the lack of updates on this page recently, but not much visible work is occurring at the moment. We are currently in the process of receiving bids and deciding which contractors will be awarded the work on the renovation, with actual construction work expected to begin at some point in July. There will likely not be any updates on this page until that point. In addition, this will be the last update posted by me as I have graduated and am not in Terre Haute anymore. Future updates will be posted by a member of the Chapter to be selected soon.

Alden Groundbreaking

Today we officially broke ground on the Alden renovation project. With the empty shell of a building behind us, Housing Corp president Don Brannan, Chapter President Ryan Smeltzer, Tim Orr, a sophomore who really got the project started last year, project manager Steven Sawochka, and I dug our shovels into the ground. It is a symbolic leap forward for the project.

In addition, the first installment of the Alden Documentary has been completed. Thanks to Whitney Zimmerman, Alex Cobb, and Evan Cornell for their work on this.

Alden Update

The clean and clear is almost complete. The tar/gravel roof has been removed so that we can get the new roof on more quickly. The entire building has been power sprayed on the inside and now looks much cleaner. Steve will be back in town next week to continue working with contractors, and we will be breaking ground next Saturday. A few pictures of the cleaning and clearing in progress have been posed, use the link above to see them.

Alden Update

The clean and clear is progressing nicely. Most of the derbies and junk has been cleared from the building, and one interior non-load bearing wall has been knocked down. Power spraying is ongoing, and is expected to be completed at some time next week.

Alden Update

The clean and clear has begun. Most of the boards covering the windows and window frames have been removed and debris are being removed from the building. The building is a lot brighter now without the windows boarded up. The final floor is in progress and should be ready to go shortly.

Alden Groundbreaking

On May 9th, 2009, the Iota Delta Chapter will be hosting our Founders Day and participating in the Pi Kappa Alpha International Workday, and as part of that day will break ground on the renovation of the currently abandoned Alden Hall. Plans have been under development for the last year to turn Alden from a vacant building into a new facility containing a Chapter Room, study rooms, dining room, kitchen, and living space for twenty or more Brothers. The final revisions to the floor plan are in progress, and they will be presented at the groundbreaking. Alden is expected to open in fall of 2010.

In the coming weeks, a new section will appear on the left side of this website where you can track the progress of the Alden renovation. Construction updates, pictures, and upcoming installments of a video documentary be posted as the renovation progresses, keeping everyone up to date on what is happening. We hope you are able to join us May 9th for the groundbreaking!
